2021/06/01 UVC air disinfection in schools

The Grund- und Mittelschule Bindlach has made an important contribution to making classrooms safer for teaching staff and students by purchasing room air disinfection units. The initiator was head teacher Sabine Mörlein, who arranged tests using several demonstration units from Hönle. The tests were successful: UVC room air cleaners from the Bavarian company Dr. Hönle AG are virtually noise-free and remove over 99% of viruses, mould spores, and bacteria from room air.

Though regular airing of the classrooms remains essential, not least to ensure an adequate supply of oxygen, the ventilation intervals can be significantly prolonged. No longer having to open windows every 20 minutes means far warmer and less draughty classrooms. Not a moment too soon, says Mrs Mörlein, as during the autumn and winter months, children frequently became ill, especially those sitting next to the windows. Blankets donated by the parents’ council helped but were not enough to prevent this.

A further advantage of UVC disinfection: As it only becomes necessary to open the windows after 45 minutes at the earliest, lessons can now follow the regular schedule again.
Four SteriWhite Air Q115 units are now mounted on the walls of a classroom and reduce the risk of infection with the Corona virus via aerosols to a minimum. “We will continue to do everything in our power to ensure that face-to-face teaching can take place safely and reliably in the future,” states Sabine Mörlein emphatically. The purchase of the UVC air disinfection units is the next step in the creation of an effective and sustainable hygiene concept. Sustainable because even after the current epidemic, Corona will remain part of our lives, like, for example, influenza viruses – against which, by the way, UVC air disinfection is also effective.
